On behalf of Harbor House of Central FL, I would like to thank you for all your support and generosity at Synod Assembly!  It was amazing how so many congregations were putting change in the 5 gallon jug, weighing in at 140 pounds for a total of close to $2000.  With all the gift cards, checks and change we received $5861.  We are so grateful!

We were overwhelmed by the love of gifts such as diapers, toiletries, bedding, shoes and so much more filling a 12 foot truck!

Just a reminder, Domestic Violence affects everyone!  1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been a victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.  It occurs in all socioeconomic, ethnic, sexual orientations, educational groups and yes even in faith communities.

Less than 30% of congregations have a plan in action if someone would share with clergy or staff they are in an abusive situation.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, what will your congregation be doing?  You can get many resources including posters and bulletin inserts at the ELCA website- ELCA.org/resources/Justice-for-women#GenderbasedViolence.   You can also find more information at faithtrustinstitute.org.

The National 24 hour crisis hotline is 1-800-500-1119.  Encourage the victim or a loved one to call!  It could be the difference of life and death!
