Synod Disaster Coordinator

Florida-Bahamas Synod is accepting applications for a Synod Disaster Coordinator until October 1st.  The position is full-time, year-round.

The Synod Disaster Coordinator will work with synod staff to develop and implement strategies for disaster preparedness and mitigation, and disaster response and recovery at the congregation and synod levels.

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, experience in human services or social services preferred.  1 to 2 years experience in Disaster Response and Public Relations desired.  Applicants should have excellent people skills, time management skills and in depth knowledge of the ELCA in its various expressions.

Tampa based residency preferred. Position requires extensive travel and overnight stays.

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Full benefits are available.

Office and Social Media Ministry Assistant

*This staff person will work with the pastor and leadership team.  Duties Include:

 Administrative Social Media/Marketing

  • Update website weekly with pictures, information, events and invites, ministry pages; Update Face Book, Twitter, Snap Chat and other social media.
  • Create monthly newsletter utilizing HTML; Create/order posters, postcards, brochures as needed for marketing, as well as other computer tasks utilizing Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Publisher.,
  • Answer phone, maintain message log; Check mail and distribute to respective boxes
  • Assist Pastor in clerical areas/worship bulletin needs; Create Annual Report and assist ministry leaders with reports for FB Synod; Assist Treasurer with financial records and statements.


  • Organize, update and maintain files; update records such as: baptisms, weddings, funeral and other.
  • Update and maintain office calendar of events and space use.
  • Keep an inventory of needed office supplies; communicate with treasurer for needed items

Volunteer Coordination

  • Work with volunteers for completion of projects as guided by pastor; Encourage and empower volunteers to use their gifts.

 Staff Meetings

  • Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings

 Other Tasks, as Assigned

  • Special needs may occur such as:   conference reservations, compiling information/maps
  • Seasonal clerical needs for Advent, Lent, Christmas.

Director of Music Ministry

  • Coordinate forums for parents on relevant topics concerning children such as self-esteem, making wise decisions, and faith formation in the home.
  • Attendance at Staff meetings.
  • Subject to other duties as established by the Pastor and the Church Council.

1. Direct and accompany choir rehearsal and warm-up practices to ensure that choir is prepared to sing with joyful confidence.

3. Rehearse with the instrumentalists, vocalists, and choir so all are sufficiently prepared to perform on the designated Sundays and/or days of worship.

4. Work with the existing Children’s Choir,  recruit new children and youth, and incorporate instruments played into Children’s Choir repertoire.

5. Weekly worship planning meetings with the Pastor.

6. To coordinate with the Pastor, rehearse and direct special weekday services including Ash Wednesday, midweek Lenten worship services, Palm/Passion Sunday worship services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.

7. Select, order and inventory choral and instrumental music throughout the year.

8. Use our copyright licenses with CCLI, One License and Augsburg Fortress according to their guidelines.

9. Provide a list of preludes, postludes and offertories for publishing in the worship service bulletin to the church secretary by Tuesday of each week.

10. Serve as a member of the Worship Team.

11. Maintain pianos and other musical instruments belonging to the congregation by making recommendations for care to the Worship Team.

12. Perform at all weddings and funerals at the church, if possible. Fee schedule to be approved by the Worship Team.

13. Role is part-time for approximately 15 hours per week.

14. Director of Music reports directly to the Pastor and is ultimately held accountable to the Church Council.
