Bishop’s School

For more than 25 years Region 9 of the ELCA has offered Bishop’s School, an opportunity for serious theological study, for outstanding high school students. The purpose of Bishops’ School is to provide an in-depth exposure to solid theological thinking and inquiry. This experience will bring together about 30 youth who will spend five days with faculty from ELCA colleges and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and one Region 9 Bishop. The information below will give you more details on the upcoming school which will be held at University of West Alabama, Livingston, AL, June 14-19, 2020.

Unique to the 2020 Bishop’s School event is that it will run concurrent with the Southeastern Synod youth event known as AFFIRM.  The AFFIRM event has several units and will consist of approximately 250 youth and 60 adults, in addition to those gathering for Bishop’s School.   The 2020 Bishop’s School will run as a separate unit and will maintain it’s focus on thinking theologically about questions that our high school youth will bring with them, as well as encourage them think about their vocation in the world.  In their free time, Bishop’s School participants will be able to participate in the activities provided by the AFFIRM community, such as an event-wide worship (every night), a talent show, swimming time, field day activities, and more.
