The Youth Group at Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Coral recently held a “Pasta and Plastic” night to help get the almost 6000 plastic bags they have collected ready to be crocheted in to mats for the homeless at the Synod Assembly in June.
The 50 people attending were treated to a Pasta Buffet compliments of the Youth Group and then joined in flattening bags, folding bags for cutting, cutting bags into strips, and joining the strips together to be rolled into balls of “plarn”.
Workers of all ages joined in the fun and fellowship and made a huge dent in the bags collected.
Many took plastic strips home to join together and roll into “plarn” balls before returning them to the Church. Several ambitious ladies took bags of bags home to do the whole process!
The Youth are hoping to send all their 6000 bags to the Synod Assembly as “plarn” balls ready to be made into mats.
