The youth and youth leaders of the First Coast Conference (Jacksonville area) are working together to be part of an upcoming 5K race being held in Satellite Beach to benefit TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms). The race will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 8 a.m. Other youth and youth leaders interested in being part of the “Lutheran Youth” team in this race are encouraged to sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/SatelliteBeach/RunForIt5K?remMeAttempt=. Find the team entitled “Lutheran Youth” and sign up there. It’s $3 less than an individual sign up. Use the password “elca.” Last year the First Coast Conference group had 11 participants, with youth winning 4 medals in their age group for their times.
If you’re not able to sign up for this event, but are interested in making a donation to TWLOHA as part of this team, use the same link. Beyond the fun of the race, this event raises awareness and invites participation in an event that gives aid to something youth deal with in a major way.
The group from First Coast is planning on spending the night before the race (April 12) at Ascension Lutheran, Indian Harbour Beach…like a mini lock-in. Those not interested or able to be part of this lock-in are welcome to use local hotel accommodations and connect with the group before the race for a picture and words of greeting and thanks.
Rich Langston, youth leader at Mandarin Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, is coordinating the connection and communication between youth and leaders who will be coming in the night before. If anyone decides to run, or even just donate, please let Rich know at langston.rich@gmail.com. If you’d like further details about anything overall, please feel free to e-mail Rich.
The organization To Write Love On Her Arms is one of the best avenues to help those dealing with anxiety, depression, or substance abuse. These issues are the number one killer of youth. Learn more about this organization at twloha.com. People can post their feelings about what they are dealing with and others can give support. There is a way to put in your zip code and find out the various local facilities that can give you the help you need. There’s even a very large store that makes gear that is very trendy and sparks conversation.
