Over 6,200 children die each day from starvation, many more are constantly hungry and don’t know if there will be a next meal! Answering God’s call to “help the least of these”, Christ Lutheran Church joined with St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church (both in Cape Coral) to fight hunger globally and locally through Feed My Starving Children. On February 20 and 21, nearly 600 volunteers from both churches packed and prayed over 132,000 meals. These meals will be shipped to children and families around the world. Not forgetting our local needs, another 1,100 pounds of canned goods were collected for the Cape Coral Caring Center food pantry!
Feed My Starving Children is a Minnesota-based Christian non-profit that tackles world hunger by sending volunteer-packed, nutritious meals to 70 countries.
This ministry was especially meaningful this year, the 500th Anniversary Year of the Reformation. Lutherans and Catholics have committed to seek ways to commemorate the anniversary together. Working together on a servant event is one way to support all of our brothers and sisters in God’s work. Plans have already begun for another packing event in 2018.
