2017 marks the 500 Year Anniversary of the Reformation. Rather than celebration, we will be focusing on observing this occasion with our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters throughout Florida. As you may be aware, years of talks have borne fruit with signed documents encouraging closer ties with one another.
A Synod committee is working to develop resources and assist in the planning of regional observances of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in Florida. Pastor Walter Still, Peace Lutheran Church, Ft Myers FL, is serving as the chair of the committee.
E-Spirit and the Florida-Bahamas Synod website will have updates regarding the commemoration of the anniversary for congregational and regional events led by the faithful of the FB Synod and Roman Catholic dioceses.
Where to begin? There is great information for congregations already at:
- Reformation 500: Sourcebook has just been released by Augsburg Fortess. It has a wealth of information, much that can be easily reproduced.
- Spend time at http://www.elca500.org/ . The website already is packed with information and links to many resources.
Save the dates! Several events have been planned quickly due to the retirement of Bishop Robert Lynch of the Diocese of St Petersburg:
- Thursday November 10, 2016 10AM-2 PM Bethany Center, Lutz, FL – Joint Rostered Leaders, and Priests Retreat.
- Friday January 20, 2017 First Joint Worship Service – Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Largo, FL
