Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
At the 2023 Synod Assembly in Orlando, voting members will elect a bishop. Voting members will also elect people to serve on the Synod Council and the Consultation Committee. Additional information will be provided by the Synod Council relating to the election of the bishop as we move closer to the period leading up to the assembly.
BISHOP ELECTION: Voting members will elect, by ecclesiastical ballot, a bishop of the Florida-Bahamas Synod. The synod constitution states that “the bishop shall be a pastor who is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.” The bishop is elected for a six-year term.
Ecclesiastical Ballot for Bishop –The first ballot is referred to as the nominating ballot. The second ballot will contain the names of all candidates who do not withdraw their names from consideration. The first two ballots for bishop will be cast using paper ballots. Beginning with the third ballot for bishop, voting will be done electronically.
GENERAL ELECTION: In preparation for the general elections, we ask your help in identifying nominees to fill these important positions.
Synod Council Representatives (in good standing for a three-year term)
(Nominees for the youth position shall be 15-17 years of age at time of election)
Note: After all the open positions on Synod Council are elected, the need for At-large members, if any, will be identified and announced.
Consultation Committee (in good standing 6-year term)
Deadline for nominations is May 1, 2023. The nominations form is available at the button below. This form is position specific.
We strongly encourage nominations to be submitted prior to the Synod Assembly so they may be included in the Nomination Packet for Voting Members. This will also facilitate a smoother and more efficient voting process for the open positions. Nominations from the floor will be accepted for all positions using a “Floor Nomination Form” which will require the written or emailed consent of the person being nominated and must be submitted as a paper copy only at the Assembly.
Your prayerful consideration of these opportunities for service is encouraged. Please be sure to promptly fill out and submit your completed Nomination Data Form so that it may be considered by the Nominating Committee. Voting on the general ballot will be done electronically.
Yours in Christ,
Tracy Moffatt, Chair
