Let’s Talk! Virtual Rostered Ministers Gathering

August 20th at 10:00am

Join Bishop Suárez and Dr. Brad Binau, along with special guests and coaches, for a virtual Rostered Ministers gathering on August 20th! All Rostered Ministers are encouraged to participate.
Our special guest speaker, Dr. Brad Binau, is a professor of Pastoral Theology at Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He will be giving a special presentation titled, “Problem or Dilemma? What We Can’t Fix We Can Often Manage”. This talk will address Rostered Ministers engaging the challenges of leading in ministry and mission in these days.
After opening prayer and devotions from Bishop Suárez, we will hear from Dr. Johan Bergh, ACC, Pastor at St. Philip Lutheran in Mt. Dora, and from our guest speaker, Dr. Brad Binau. Later, we’ll break into small groups for discussion together. Coaches from throughout our synod and others will join to help facilitate conversation.
About our special guest speaker:
The Rev. Dr. Brad Binau is Professor of Pastoral Theology and former Academic Dean at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. A graduate of Capital University, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary, he served La Jolla Lutheran Church in southern California before joining the Trinity faculty in 1993. The courses he teaches are indicative of his wide-ranging academic interests. Among them are:  “The Care of Souls,” “Shame and Christian Ministry,” “The Seven Deadly Sins,” “Theological Leadership,” and “Rural and Small Town Ministry.” If you Google his name you can find articles he has written related to shame, forgiveness, humor, the atonement, and the missional church.
During his time as Academic Dean, Dr. Binau led the development of Trinity’s innovative “2+2” internship program that couples two years of residential learning for M.Div. students followed by two years in an internship context. On internship, students continue to learn via online and intensive seminary classes developing the skills needed to be life-long servant learners.
Dr. Binau’s avocations are traveling (he has visited 22 countries on four continents and 49 of the 50 states), American history, and the poetry of Robert Frost. His spouse, the Rev. Ann Palmerton, is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church USA.  They are the parents of three children – two out of college and one in the middle of college, and a thirteen year-old labradoodle, Moxie.
